Since Halloween is Sunday this year we did our Halloween Celebration on Saturday this year. We started with a dinner with our new friends the Hunters. We had Mummy Dogs, bloody fingers (french fries in ketchup) deviled eggs, carrot sticks, salad and witches brew for dinner.
Then we played a game of Ghost Bingo where the kids won glow sticks to wear trunk or treating.
Then the kids decorated sugar cookies, which they ate as fast as the decorated (with the acception of Little Ben who only had one cookie but it had several layers of frosting and decorations)
Then with 30 minutes to spare the Hunters left to go home and get their kids dressed for the trunk or treat and we got our kids dressed for the trunk or treat.
Vincent was Mr Hyde (As in Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde)
Addison was the Mickey Mouse from Fantasia
Nicholas was Mario
Eliza was Snow White
Then we met back up with the Hunters at the Church for some Trunk or Treat Fun
Ethan the Lion and Brynna the Tiger. I didnt get a picture of Ben at the Trunk or Treat but I did at the Sunny Acres Halloween Party. He was a Pirate

Sunny Acres Halloween Party
Eliza went to her Halloween Party at school on Friday, where she got to play some games and trick or treat around the preschool. We picked up one of her friends Ben Hunter and took him with us. They both had a great time and got a lot of candy to start their Haloween Season Off Just right!

My Cute Little Nerd Herders!
Today at school was nerd day. Vincent didn't want to participate because "that would be embarrassing". However, Addison and Nicholas were game and new exactly what they wanted to do. Our family has been watching the TV Series Chuck through Netflix. Even though the series itself is currently in season 4 we have started at Season One through Netflix. My kids have loved "The Nerd Herd" so that is who they became today.
When we got to the school the Assistant Dean was getting out of his car and was dressed just like my boys with the exception he was wearing big rimmed glasses and his name tag said "Geek Squad" not "Nerd Herd". He saw my boys and got excited and said that great minds think alike he was going to have to find someone to take a picture of the three of them. I hope to get a copy of that!

Trip To San Diego
So almost two whole months have gone by and I am so far behind on Blog Posts. My camera battery died on the first day of school and I didn't have another battery to replace it so the camera got put up on top of my book shelf (or so I thought) and when I got a new battery at the first of Sept and went to put it in my camera was not there. Well, to make a long story short while cleaning John's bookshelf for him yesterday I found it on top of his. Apparently I stuck it on top of his over a month ago and forgot. So now it is time to play catch up!
The first week of August John attended a conference in San Diego for his new position at work teaching AP US History. Since our 10th wedding aniversary was August 17th I went a long for the ride and we turned it into our Anniversary Trip Too. I spent the weeks prior to the trip cutting out quilts and took my sewing machine along with us and sewed my mornings away while John was in class. He was in class until 3:30 everyday and then the afternoons were free to do as we wished.
On Monday we went to Old Town
On Tuesday we walked around the outdoor mall had dinner at the food court and went to the movies to see Eclipse. I have to say I think that has been my favorite movie of the Twilight Saga so far.
On Wednesday we went out to a very nice steak and shrimp dinner and then walked around a book store that was saling discount books for under $5.00. John was in heaven. We were going to go to the San Diego Temple but never made it over there. As we were driving home we drove by it and discovered that it was closed for repair so then we didn't feel so bad for not making it over there.
On Thursday I picked John up from class and we went to Sea World. I had not been there since I was a little girl and John had never been there. It was sure a lot of fun.
On Friday I took John to his last day of class and went back to the motel and packed up and checked. I then went back to the campus after lunch and walked around campus with John. What a beautiful campus San Diego University is. We then headed home to our kids. That was the longest I had ever left them and was so ready to go see them again.

In The Spotlight- Nicholas James Wilder
Our Primary President came up with a wonderful thing where she spotlights a child in primary every week. She asks the kids questions about themselves (likes and dislikes etc), and then she calls the parents and asks them some questions about their child too. With all the info she get from both the child and their parents she makes a 12x12 scrapbook page of things about the child and presents it during primary reading the things about them. Nicholas was the spotlight today and at the end she gave him his scrapbook page about him and a typed paper of all the answers John and I gave about Nicholas and the things that Nicholas answered for her to go along with it.
So here it is
Spotlight NICHOLAS JAMES WILDER (Questions posed to Nicholas for him to answer are in red)

What is your child's full name: Nicholas James Wilder
What is the Story Surrounding you child's Birth?
Nicholas is our third child. The third grandchild on one side and the fourth on the other. Nicholas although the third was our first planned child and was born nine months after we moved to Porterville. Nicholas was born two weeks early on his dads first day of Spring Break so his dad was dissapointed that he already had the week off so he didn't get an extra week off like he hoped for.
What year was he born? 2005
Where was he born? Porterville, California
Where did he get his name? Nicholas is a name from his dads side. It was the name his uncle was originally named but his uncle was born a few days before Christmas and the nurses kept singing Jolly Ole Saint Nicholas and his grandma was worried he would never live down the name of Saint Nick, so his name was changed and she never had another son to use the name Nicholas. James is Sarah's grandfathers name. Nicholas got to meet him for the first time in April of this year (2010) two weeks before he passed away from Cancer.
What is his favorite color? blue
What is his favorite food? Pancakes
Who is his hero? Addison
What is his favorite scripture story? anything about the gospel
What is his favorite pastime? Reading Books with mommy and daddy
What is he going to be when he grow up? A firefighter
What are his talents? He is can be very quiet (and believe me in the Wilder household that is a talent!)
What is his favorite subject? circle time
A funny story about him?
When Nicholas was around 7/8 months old his uncle Donald was taking a photography class in college. He needed a picture that depicted an expression. He was having a hard time getting what he wanted. He asked if it was okay if he gave Nicholas a lemon or pickle and take a picture of the expression he made. I was okay with it so he gave him a pickle. Nicholas grabbed a hold of it and started sucking away. He LOVED IT. No expression of dislike just kept sucking on it. From that day forward his nickname has been Mr. Pickles.
Nicholas is known in our house for falling asleep wherever he is in the weirdest positions.
What makes your child so special?
I have always referred to Nicholas as my "Ray of Sunshine" he is a very loving and cuddly child who loves to sit and just be snuggled and read too.

Day 7 7/19/10

The Final Stretch....Pure boredom as we drove from Las Vegas to Porterville. Over tired, sick of the car, boredom you name it, we had it.
