When John and I named Addison when he was born we had not heard of the name before, we found it in my family history. It was my great grandfathers name. The fall after Addison was born the series "Grey's Anatomy" started and one of the female doctors name was Addison. After that the name has sky rocketed through the roof as a very popular girls name. It bothered John and I a lot as we were both worried that he may get teased since more people were using it as a girls name. In his primary class there is a little girl named Adyson and they got the name from "Grey's Anatomy" just changed the spelling to make it more feminine. Addison didnt seem to mind that, but yesterday came home from school and said his substitute said her little girls name was Addison and so a couple of the boys started telling him he had a girls name. He came home and wanted to know why we gave him a girls name. I showed him in our family history the name but that didnt solve it. I then went to babynames.socialsecurity.gov. It lists off popular names of the year and yes, Addison was on the girls list as one of the most popular names, however, when you click on the name for the meaning and origin it reads,
